The question “Is it a life experience?” has launched us into some amazing cultural exchanges such as volunteering in Tanzania, floating in a canoe down the Amazon, snorkeling in Alaska and walking among the wonderful creatures on the Galapagos Islands.

At last the weather is mild enough for our first camping experience ! I had booked a cabin at the Sweetwater Ranch right next to the Arkansas River for the first night as we were leaving right after school.
When we got there we were amazed. It was only a pull off right next to the highway BUT it was right next to the raging Arkansas river. Crossing over the torrent via suspension bridge was an experience not to be forgotten. Thinking about it neither was the cabin. It was really half a cabin (see photo) with a double bed and a small table and THAT WAS IT!!! No toilet or shower. We did have a great visit though - as ever surrounded by gorgeous mountains. Cooking dinner on our new gas stove (that didn't work!) while watching the sunset over the mountains.The couple who were managing the place had only arrived three days before. They spend their life travelling and they manage cabins/ resorts etc while owners take a rest.

Westcliffe experience
We had no idea what to expect from our visit to westcliffe. My friend Kathy who I have lunch with each week suggested that we visit when I told her we were heading towards Pueblo. Her grandfather was born there and so she told me great tales about the place. "It's a real cowboy town" she said. So we made a beeline for the place.
When we arrived we realised that everyone was in a flurry preparing for a parade. There were people handing flags out and cars pulled up and set out chairs of all sizes, shapes and disrepair. It was the "Thank you to the veterans" parade. There were cowboys with broad hats and bowlegged stances, sports cars, jeeps, hummers, horses, helicopters, hippies smoking dope and excited children waving flags. it certainly brought the whole town together. I must admit though I was overtaken by a wave of sadness to think that it all continues and that so many people are still suffering and dying...........it was time to move on.

Gorgeous Grand Junction
An amazing thing about the small towns here is the ART! STREET ART. Truly incredible. I just thought that Grand junction was a service town but it just had heaps of fantastic street art.......enjoy!!!
